    Description

You are bidding on a WWI New Zealand Native Contingent Maori Pioneer Bn Cap or Lapel Badge.
The badge is used and is in good condition with some signs of wear and age (darkening). Due to the badge’s size I’m not sure if this is a cap badge or lapel badge (aka: collar dog). The badge is bigger than most lapel badges and smaller than most cap badges, so please see the last pic for size. The backside is unmarked and has both of its original lugs; however one lug does have a split in the loop.
    The
    New Zealand
(Maori) Pioneer Battalion, (aka: the Native Contingent and Pioneer Battalion), was a battalion of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force that served during World War I. The battalion was first raised in 1915 and served at Gallipoli and the Western Front, primarily as pioneers. Over, 2,200 Maori served in the Pioneer Battalion during the course of the First World War, alongside nearly 460 Pacific Islanders. Over 730 personnel were wounded while 336 died while on active service. Be sure to check out my other auctions for more military collectibles. Good luck and happy bidding!
